Dare to be Different

The OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators celebrates its 40th annual conference in the offbeat, beautiful, and wonderful city of Asheville, North Carolina June 5-8, 2013.

As individuals, when we reach our 40's we step out to discover our true selves and dare to be who we really are. As OBTC reaches its 40's we encourage the same of our conference presenters and attendees.  And what better place to do so than at OBTC and in Asheville, North Carolina?

OBTC is different. We have a strong tradition of supportive, yet inquisitive and daring dialogue that encourages attendees to discover and try different philosophies and methods for teaching and learning. We welcome you to dare to be different with us.

Asheville is different.

This small city is renowned for its eclectic and thriving arts community, consistently noted by artists, musicians, foodies, and beer enthusiasts as a rich mecca for those seeking an array of tastes and sounds, including an organic weekly drum circle and thriving farmers' market. The University of North Carolina Asheville is dedicated to teaching the liberal arts in a tradition of multi- and interdisciplinary study with an emphasis on undergraduate research and the humanities.  A walk through the city or campus reveals a community who proudly embraces their difference.

University of North Carolina Asheville

As the only designated liberal arts institution in the University of North Carolina system, UNC Asheville has created an environment for exploring the world. About 3,700 undergraduate students and about 330 full- and part-time faculty members bring the campus alive with a genuine hunger to understand and contribute to the human experience. It is a modern campus with state of the art facilities, high-tech classrooms, and recreation spaces. With amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and easy accessible to local shops, restaurants, hotels, and many tourist attractions, the campus is a perfect location to host management educators from around the world. Combining interior spaces optimal for both small and large gatherings, with a spacious outdoor Quadrangle, Botanical Gardens, and nature trails, UNC Asheville provides attendees with a beautiful environment in which to learn and grow together.
